Material:Oil on Canvas
Year:2015
Intro:
Artist Peng Hung-Chih’s “Taichi 24 Postures” follows his recent series “Post Inner Scripture” and he creates the largest size of oil painting ever in his artist career for the hotel lobby. The “Post -Inner Scripture” series is an audience participation-based performance art, inspired by “Neijing Tu”, an ancient illustration of human’s meridian system and it represents the essence of wellness and meditation practice in Daoism. He sometimes invites performance artists or his 6 years old and 4 years old daughters to splash or drop oil colours on canvas. Peng takes automatic drawing as core concept and illustrates figurative details on abstractive composition by meticulous painting techniques. It is a constant movement to assemble abstract Qi (life energy) on canvas.
When Peng started making “Taichi 24 Postures”, he laid canvas on the ground first and made a white circle splash on canvas. He held a long shaped paint brush and performed the 24 postures simplified form of Taichi Chuan at same time on canvas. Long shaped paint brush moved along with artist’s body movement and created rhythmic lines, splash dots and ink spreading on canvas. Peng completes Taichi’s spirit, which integrates physical external with meditative internal harmoniously on large scale canvas. Invisible Qi turns out very powerful momentum as well as astronomical circle.
